GeneralSearch Engines - lots of these around, Yahoo, Lycos, etc. and because of the size
of the Internet, it’s usually difficult to get your site prominently rated on them - i.e., within about the first 20 search results. So, some of the smaller ones can be very useful, and we strongly support
them.
One very good one is WebSearch;
based in Australia, but with localized engines set up for the UK, New Zealand and Hong Kong as well. If you want to get listed, or if you’re trying to find a key word that isn’t appearing elsewhere, then try
WebSearch
. Listings are free, so get yourself aboard! |
For our readers in the States...Visit Doug Stephan’s site at www.dougstephan.com where you’ll find news, radio programs and much more! Doug is a top USA talk show host, and runs the Syndicated National Morning Drive program, “Good Day USA”, which can be heard in most
cities throughout the States. For a full list of the stations (there will be well over 200 stations by the end of this year!), visit Doug’s site.
You can hear a spot by the renowned Uri Geller on
Thursdays, and Sasha joins Doug as a guest when timing allows, to bring you your Sun Sign astrological forecasts, as well as other topical issues.
So, listen in during drive time, there’s lots to keep you entertained! |
For independent/prospective/small publishersTwo websites in particular struck
us as being very useful when we were setting up our own publishing business (they’re still
useful to us!). They are based in the USA and naturally States-orientated, but a lot of their resources are valid worldwide, and well worth a visit.
1. Para Publishing at www.ParaPublishing.com
Dan Poynter, author of “The Self-Publishing Manual” and numerous other books, has made available a terrific amount of (free) information on writing, publishing and
related areas on his website, along with much more data that is available by fax or via the Internet, for purchase at reasonable cost. Visit the site and see for yourself. His book on self-publishing is
in its 11th. incarnation in 20 years, and the fact that it is still selling over that length of time says more than any punting could do. If you’re in the writing/publishing game, this is well worth looking
into.2. The Publishers’ Marketing Association, at
www.pma-online.org For the independent publisher, this is another site that deserves a visit. Again, largely
States orientated, it is nevertheless a great source of publishing information in its library of past articles extracted from the regular PMA Newsletter, much of which is also useful elsewhere in the world.
If you live outside the States and have any inclination to try the USA market, then you should seriously consider joining the PMA, their assistance and programs to help publishers are really valuable.
